7th Annual Mardi Gras Autism Fundraiser will be March 1, 2014 at the Hotel Alex Johnson.

Attend a wonderful Workshop to learn how to create a One Page Introduction as a way to educate and help others, in a very understandable and specific way, to support your toddler, child, or adult. It has saved me hours of explaining to teachers, aids, Special Olympics coaches, etc. how to understand and better care for Andrew.
South Dakota Parent Connection wants to hold the next Rapid City workshop when people are available. They just need one parent/caregiver although more family members and the individuals themselves are all invited. Click below for a description of the workshop.

We will hear from Sandra Lia Rodrigues Franco, a teacher, psychologist and mother from Santos, Brazil that has written a book about her 19 year old son who has had multiple diagnosis over the course of his life.  She is committed to sharing her story to help others.
 
Meet Sandy Burns, President of the Society and interact with other parents.  Families with new diagnosis will be able to meet other families and ask questions about autism.

 National Disability Employment Awareness Month
The Theme for 2013 is:  "Because we are Equal to the Task"
Featured Speaker:  Dr. Richard Pimentel is a nationally renowned expert on Disability Management, Job Recruitment, Job Retention, Americans with Disabilities Act and Attitude Change. He is not only technically proficient, but he is also an exceptional communicator whose audiences praise his ability to combine information, humor, metaphor, analogy and storytelling into an informative whole that does not just present the information, but really communicates it in a memorable fashion.

 

We have changed the dates on the Craft Program.  The program will now run July 16 and 17 and July 23 and 24 at the Black Hills Works classroom located across the street from the Black Hills Works Administration Building on Range Road.  The time is 12:30 to 2:30.  The cost is $25 per child and probably less than six in the program. 
 
All crafts will go home at the end of each day
*decorating a bird house
*making side walk chalk and bouncy balls
*wood letters in their name to use as a wall decoration
*mason jars to create glow in the dark stars and dancing fireflies

Sarah is going to offer a Craft Program for two weeks starting on Monday, July 15. 


The program will run two times a week on Mondays and Wednesdays for two hours per day. The dates are July 15, 17,22 and 24 from 1:00 to 3:00pm each day.


The cost for parents is $25 per week.


The place has not been determined. That will depend on the interest level.

Camp Galena is a day camp offered at the historic Galena Ghost Town on June 22nd (application due June 8th) and again July 13 (application due July 1) from 9 am to 4 pm.  Students will have the opportunity to experience the beautiful natural environment of the Black Hills through hands on activities in a ratio of 5 students to 1 teacher.  They will learn about different trees and flowers while hiking a trail through the woods.  Gardening, self help and sustainability will be taught through gathering vegetables and eggs before preparing a meal.  Students can relax on the covered porch for games, reading and journaling.  To remember the experience, the students will create a handmade craft.  "Sage" the resident Golden Retriever will participate in the day.

History of Galena:  Galena is a ghost town in the northern Black Hlls of South Dakota.  It started a boom period in about 1876.  In 1882 the town built the schoolhouse that still stands today.  It finally closed after the 1942-43 school year.  Thanks to the Galena Historical Society the school is in excellent shape.

The cost is $25 per student and they are responsible for their own transportation.  Minimum age 7.  Submit application to determine eligibility.

The first week of Exploring Sports has been cancelled due to lack of participation. Most programs will run 9 - 11 am.  Staff will contact you if times vary.  Your child(ren) can attend every week, or pick an choose which weeks work best.  We are accepting applications for the remaining weeks:
